2009 CLEVELAND FIREFIGHTER
Since 1950, Don McNea Fire School has prepared over 40,000 applicants to take the Cleveland Firefighter Examination and firefighter examinations across the country. The last Cleveland firefighter examination was given in 1998. The next Cleveland Firefighter Examination is anticipated to be held between June-August of 2009. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
The minimum requirements to take the examination are 18 years of age and a high school diploma or GED. The starting salary of a Cleveland Firefighter is $44,122 and the salary after 3 years is $54,123. Additional benefits include a comprehensive medical and dental plan, 3 weeks paid vacation, and a retirement plan after just 25 years of service and age 48. Cleveland residents will receive an extra 10 points on your final examination score. ENROLLMENT Don McNea Fire School has begun accepting enrollment for our next Cleveland Firefighter Preparatory Class. If you are a former student or have been referred by another firefighter, you know that Don McNea Fire School classes sell out quickly. The preparatory classes for the last three Cleveland Firefighter Examinations were sold out, each with a waiting list. Our first class is currently 60% full! CLASS TIME/SCHEDULE The classes normally are held in the evenings on a Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday schedule for 6 weeks. Depending on enrollment, weekend classes are usually offered. As test time approaches, all class details will be made available to you. CLASS RESULTS Since 1992, 348 out of the 467 firefighters hired by the Cleveland Fire Department were Don McNea Fire School students! ENDORSEMENTS The school has also earned the respect and endorsements of the Cleveland Firefighters' Union and the Cleveland Fire Chiefs' Association.
