Problem Analysis:
Problem analysis is evaluated many times on the basis of behavior. It shows that a fire officer recognizes and uses information available to him/her. If a fire officer cannot properly plan and organize information presented to him/her and exercise sound judgment, he/she will be a failure in problem analysis. An important element of problem analysis is the ability to pull together related information appearing in different sources and locations.
High ratings for problem analysis include:
- being able to think logically
being able to think on your feet
not become emotionally involved in a decision
being able to determine the exact nature of the problem
being able to analyze the impact of this problem, being able to locate the source of problems
capable of finding all relevant and necessary information to make decisions
requesting additional information whenever appropriate
recognizing scheduling conflicts that could occur
candidate took specific course of action to resolve any problems that occurred
requests for information from the public or inquiries within the department are handled promptly
