2020 Akron, Ohio, Firefighter Exam

Since 1950, Don McNea Fire School has successfully prepared over 60,000 applicants for firefighter examinations across the country.

The City of Akron is accepting applications for the
position of Firefighter/Medic
 through May 1, 2020.
Written exam scheduled for May 15 and 16, 2020.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or GED.
  • Candidate must be within the ages of 18 through 35 years at the time of the written examination.
  • Must meet current NFPA medical standards, which include vision and hearing requirements.  NFPA vision standards include, but are not limited to:  Minimum visual acuity uncorrected:  20/100 using both eyes; corrected visual acuity with contact lenses of glasses - 20/40; binocular vision; and color perception.
  • Possession of a valid Ohio operator's license.

As in the past, Don McNea Fire School will once again be preparing interested applicants for the Akron Firefighter Exam Process.  Due to the uncertainties of the Coronavirus situation in regard to number of people gathered, we are unsure at this time if we will conduct a one-day seminar or offer an at-home preparatory package.
